Spain has officially secured the top spot in the global rankings for digital nomads, earning recognition from two prestigious independent reports released in early 2026. The nation stood out in both a comprehensive international visa index and a major global city ranking, confirming its place as the world’s leading destination for remote professionals.

Spain Tops Global Digital Nomad Visa Report

According to the report, Spain achieved an almost perfect score of 99.67 out of 100, surpassing 63 other countries that currently offer digital nomad visa (DNV) programs. This annual report evaluates nations across 15 key indicators within six major dimensions, including visa accessibility, taxation, cost of living, internet infrastructure, quality of life, and legal transparency.

This high ranking reflects Spain’s efforts to streamline its Digital Nomad Visa system, offering up to three years of residency from the start, with easy renewals and competitive application costs—especially when processed directly within Spain.

“Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa isn’t just a document—it’s a gateway to an exceptional lifestyle,” said Javier Rivas, lead researcher of the report. “It stands out due to its legal clarity, long-term benefits, and alignment with European mobility.”

The report placed the Netherlands, Uruguay, and Canada in second, third, and fourth places, respectively. Other European nations such as France, Czechia, Germany, and Portugal also made the top 10, but none came close to Spain’s all-around performance.

Savills Index Highlights Spain’s Urban Appeal for Nomads

Spain’s dominance was further confirmed in the Savills Executive Nomad Index 2025, a separate annual study published by the UK-based real estate firm Savills. This index ranks the best cities worldwide for digital nomads, based on factors such as real estate affordability, coworking spaces, global connectivity, climate, and quality of life.

Three Spanish cities made it to the top 10:

• Malaga – Ranked 3rd
• Palma de Mallorca – Ranked 6th
• Barcelona – Ranked 7th

These cities are praised for their vibrant international communities, warm Mediterranean climates, and growing infrastructure for remote workers. Savills highlighted Malaga in particular for its “high quality of life, affordable housing, and proximity to international airports.” The city is quickly transforming into a digital innovation hub, with increased investments in tech parks and international partnerships.
